Alumni Spotlight: Brian Bowman '11

Elmira, NY (08/08/2019) — Brian Bowman '11 describes himself as motivated. Throughout school, he loved to learn and compete. He always wanted to do his best and knew he could achieve anything he set his mind to do. Though he was not always sure of what career he wanted to pursue, it was in his senior year of high school he decided he wanted to be a pharmacist.

While looking at colleges, Brian knew he wanted to continue with his soccer career. He also had heard wonderful things about EC from local alumni and felt right at home while on his campus tour. While at EC, he was a part of Christian Fellowship, men's volleyball, men's varsity & junior varsity soccer, softball, junior varsity basketball, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Beta Kappa. He was a Gold Key, Resident Assistant, and on the Orientation Executive Committee. Not only was he active in on-campus clubs and organizations, he also took advantage of EC's Term III travel courses, travelling to Greece and Egypt with Dr. Heidi Dierckx and, later, to Canyon Country with Dr. Charles Mitchell. He describes both Term III travel experiences as unforgettable.

While reminiscing about his time at EC, Brian remarks about all of the wonderful people he met while attending and all of the unique EC traditions, such as Candlelight and singing.

After EC, Brian attended the University of Buffalo and earned a master's of business administration and a doctor of Pharmacy degree. He returned to the Elmira community and works for Gerould's Pharmacy. Brian also founded SIGN, a non-profit, which provides medical care for the people of Haiti.

Brian's advice to prospective students: "Take advantage of every opportunity you have at EC. You can get involved in just about anything you are interested in with the campus being so personal. Try to get to know as many people as you can, both students and staff."
