George Waters Gallery to Host Alumni Art Exhibition

Elmira, NY (06/18/2019) — The George Waters Gallery will host an alumni art exhibit, June 20-22, for Reunion 2019. Professor of art and director of the gallery, Chris Longwell, curated the show which will feature more than 25 alumni works in a variety of media.

The exhibit will be open on Thursday, June 20 from 1:00-8:00 p.m., and Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. This year's participants include:

Marilyn Ambrose '70

Karissa Andersen '18
Karissa graduated in 2018 from Elmira College with a B.A. in visual arts, focusing primarily on ceramics. She has been pursuing large-scale oil painting in her recent work.

Amanda Baroody '02
Amanda is a studio art, art education graduate from EC currently residing in Elmira, New York. She spends her time teaching art at a local elementary school and participating in public art. Her current works focus on the interplay between gloss/matte that overlay a variety of textures.

Chris Bell '00
Chris Bell is an illustrator from Horseheads, New York, and a 2000 graduate of Elmira College in fine arts. His work mixes digital and traditional mediums with reflective geometric designs. Chris is currently an art teacher in the Horseheads School District and creates art and graphic design through his business, Bell Graphics (www.bellgfx.com.)

Samantha Berger '18
Sam graduated from Elmira College in 2018 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and art. She now lives in New York City and works at Aicon Gallery located in the East Village. Currently Sam's interest lies in printmaking, and the ability to manipulate both positive and negative space.

Melissa Goodier '12
Melissa graduated from Elmira College in 2012. In 2016, she graduated with her Bachelor's in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she now lives. She currently works as a line cook, but hopes to one day combine her love of art and food into a career.

Masako Grow '03
Taka, a Tokyo native, graduated from Elmira College in 2003. She now lives in Horseheads, New York, with her husband and two children. Gardening and hiking are her passions; "the color and line in nature inspire me in so many ways, as well as traditional Japanese art." Much of what she draws/paints are special objects and her close friends' loved ones.

Alexandra Hood '15
Alexandra currently lives and works in Lewiston, Maine. After graduating with a B.A. in art from Elmira College she began working at Bates College as the Olin Arts Center Operations Supervisor. She is currently the co-chair of Art Walk Lewiston Auburn and continues to create art, primarily focusing on graphite portraits and small botanical pen drawings.

Kathleen Huddle '88
Kathleen owned and operated the commercial business, Huddle Art Studio from 1996 to 2011. Her works include paintings, drawings, photographs, jewelry and books, which are included in numerous collections and have been exhibited nationally.

Michael Husted '79
Michael discovered jewelry making while majoring in studio art at Elmira College and made a career of it becoming a "Jewelers of America Certified Master Bench Jeweler".

Hillary Irvine '11
Hillary lives and works in Boston and Gloucester, Massachusetts. She began her artistic pursuits during her freshman year at Elmira, and her ever-expanding interests have grown to include woodworking, photography, sculpture, and gilding.

Diane Janowski '82
Working in a style that encompasses American realism and mid-century hopes and ideals, Janowski's paintings are recollections. Janowski earned her B.A. in studio art at Elmira College, and studied toward an M.F.A in sculpture.

Paige Hemke Kleinfelder '13
Paige is best known for her intricate oil paintings of abandoned structures in America's Rust Belt. Kleinfelder, who signs her work "Hemke", has exhibited throughout the US including a solo show at Crary Art Gallery in Warren, Pennsylvania, and participation in group exhibitions at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland; and the Lawrence County Annual Art Show.

Angela graduated from Elmira College in 2010. She is currently an art teacher in the Horseheads, school district in Horseheads, New York, and has an active studio practice producing highly textured wheel-thrown and altered ceramic works that push the envelope of function.

Tim is a writer, minimalist painter, and co-creator of Disparate Minds (disprateminds.org), a project dedicated to understanding, supporting, and discussing developmentally disabled artists and the progressive art studio movement.

Jaimeson is an oil painter, art advocate, and educator based out of Olean, New York. Currently, Jamieson works as the gallery curator at the Arts Council for Wyoming County in Perry, New York. Riling received his B.S. in studio art from Elmira College in 2014.

Ché Swanson '79
Ché received a B.A. in art history and studio art from EC in 1979. After working for international design firms in New York City, Ché established her own residential design firm in 1997, and most recently in 2015, established Ché Fine and Decorative Arts in Las Vegas.

Julia Tighe '15
Julia is from the Hudson Valley region of New York. She attended Elmira College from 2011-2015, and is currently working on her Master of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art, with a focus on painting and drawing. She works mainly in oil paint, graphite, and ink.

Stephanie Wysluzaly '08
With influences as diverse as Caravaggio and the 1977 made-for-television comedy horror film "Halloween with the New Addams Family," as well as the knowledge that no one gets out of life alive, I simply make things."

Christopher Yockey '98
Christopher was born and raised in metropolitan Detroit and currently lives and works in New York City. He received his Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.A. in art from Elmira College. Christopher is currently an artist-in-resident for the Athena Foundation and is an artist assistant to Mark di Suvero.
