Steve Glick '78 Headlines Inaugural Mammone '78 Memorial Academy
Elmira, NY (10/01/2018) — The inaugural Bette A. Mammone '78 Memorial Academy, established in memory of Mammone, will be held on Friday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m. in Peterson Chapel, Cowles Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Steven M. Glick '78, a classmate of Mammone's, is the inaugural honored lecturer. Glick is chairman of Gipper Media, Inc., an athletic communications service, and the former senior vice president, chief legal officer, and corporate secretary of Public Storage, an S&P 500 company and the second largest real estate company in the United States.
Glick has navigated a successful global career, serving in a variety of diverse, challenging and prominent roles both in the United States and overseas. Before joining Public Storage, Glick was general counsel, Americas for Technicolor following six years as executive vice president, Business Affairs, Licensees and Business Development at Paramount Pictures, in Hollywood, California and London, England. In addition to his more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, Glick served for seven years as general counsel of two major British public companies, including Ladbroke plc, Europe's largest gaming company and then owner of Hilton International. The first eight years of Glick's career were spent as a bank and corporate finance lawyer in the New York, London, and Paris offices of Shearman & Sterling, a major international law firm.
Following his graduation, magna cum laude, from Elmira College in 1978, Steve earned an MSc (1980) in the politics and government of Russia from The London School of Economics, and a J.D. (1984), with honors, from The University of Connecticut School of Law. He has served on numerous boards of public, private and non-profit institutions, and, in the first two decades of his career, was a widely published author on a broad range of legal topics, especially involving human rights.
The Academy honors exceptionally successful alumni in business, leadership, community, educational, and philanthropic endeavors. Recipients of the annual award are selected based on their professional expertise and achievements, as well as dedication to charitable and community initiatives. Bette Ann Mammone '78 had a dream of creating a forum whereby alumni could share the ways of the world with students who were about to go out into that world. Although Bette passed away in 2017 before that dream became a reality, the Class of 1978 took up her cause and established the Academy in her memory.
During the Academy lecture, Glick will share personal and professional views on lessons learned and the ways that he managed to shape his own career path. The program will include a presentation showcasing Glick's top 10 career highlights and will conclude with an interactive Q&A session.
