2017 Aug 15

For the fifth consecutive season and the sixth time in the past seven years, the Elmira College women's lacrosse team has been recognized as an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

EC was one of a combined 300 Division I, II, III and NAIA institutions to garner Academic Honor Squad accolades from the IWLCA for their outstanding success in the classroom in 2016-17. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, a team must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to the Academic Honor Squad award, the IWLCA named six Soaring Eagles to its Division III Academic Honor Roll. Kyra McDonald '18, Kylie Connell '17, Kiersta Pino '18, Kelcey Crawford '18, Sarah Hughson '18 and Lindsay Wargo '17 were each cited for their academic achievements, with seniors Connell and Wargo earning the award for the second consecutive season. In each of the past three years, the Purple and Gold have had six student-athletes named to the IWLCA/Zag Sports Honor Roll.

The IWLCA honored 531 student-athletes from 156 different institutions on the 2017 IWLCA/Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student, and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.

"As a program we value the importance of academic achievement," said head coach Alexa Tardif. "The team and those named to the Honor Roll deserve this recognition, they've worked tremendously hard. I am very proud of their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field."
