Annual JDRF Walk to Raise Money for a Cure
Elmira, NY (05/08/2019) — This Saturday, May 11, 2019, members of the Elmira College community are banding together to walk for a cure in the upcoming One Walk to End Type 1 Diabetes on the EC campus.
Wendy Fiscus, director of health services at Elmira College, organized the Eagles for a Cure team.
"Elmira College supports this cause and our organization is passionate about helping people in our community that have Type I Diabetes," said Fiscus. "The money goes to research, which is crucial in finding treatment and hopefully one day, a cure for this disease which affects millions of people."
Check-in for the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Speidel Gymnasium, with the walk beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday's event, hosted by the JDRF Rochester Chapter and the EC Student Alumni Council, is one of more than 200 community JDRF Walks nationwide that bring together hundreds of thousands of people each year who share JDRF's vision to create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
The Chapter raises funds to aid research efforts of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), a serious lifelong disease impacting some 1.25 million Americans including 200,000 youth. Forty-two teams have already registered online and raised a combined total of over $51,568 of the $58,050 goal. Walk participants will be supporting a good cause while enjoying food, refreshments, music, and bounce houses.
