EC2 Development Team Hosts Mobile Packing Party

Elmira, NY (11/20/2019) — The Elmira College Entrepreneurial Community (EC2) Development Team recently hosted a Mobile Packing Party on campus in support of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

The event, which was sponsored by Alison Wolfe, EC associate professor, board member of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier (FBST), and EC2 Development Team Advisor. The community service event drew students, faculty, and staff in support of the Food Bank.

"Hosting a Mobile Packing Party is a great way to get involved with the Food Bank as a group, help feed families in need in the community, and engage a team in a meaningful way at a location that is convenient for them," said Jennifer Harris '16, volunteer coordinator for the Food Bank and EC alumna. "Every bag packed by the group goes directly to a family in need across the Southern Tier. Because we rely heavily on volunteers and donations, a Mobile Packing Party helps in more ways than one."

The EC Mobile Packing Party focused on "bagging" pasta that would have otherwise gone to a landfill due to a misprint on the packaging. The EC volunteers packed 1,152 pounds of pasta for the Food Bank.

"Each year, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier distributes 9,090,433 meals to people struggling with hunger. We are very proud to contribute to and assist in this process," stated Wolfe.

Formerly affiliated with Enactus, the EC2 Development Team strives to create a positive and exciting attitude towards community service, leading into a lifestyle of giving back to the community. The student-run team helps create networking relationships by developing entrepreneurial actions in the Elmira community. In 2019-2020, the Team is working with Elmira Downtown Development, Economic Opportunity Program, and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to create and enhance community impact and service.

Wolfe and the EC2 Development Team will host another Mobile Packing Party event in February 2020. For any students interested in joining EC2 Development, please join us at one of our meetings, which are held at 12:45 p.m., on Tuesdays in the Morris Room, Meier Hall.
