Elmira College Adds Undergraduate HR Concentration

Elmira, NY (11/19/2020) — Elmira College has received approval from New York State Education Department to add a human resources management concentration to its business administration degree.

The new concentration is aligned with both the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) curriculum requirements. Students preparing to obtain the professional certifications after completion of the HR concentration must have a minimum of 500 internship hours in the field of human resources to qualify for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (CP) exam.

SHRM's global HR credentials, SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP, offer growth, advancement and recognition for HR professionals. These credentials are based on extensive global research involving employers, academics, and practicing HR professionals at all levels to ensure they maintain an industry-leading level of excellence and relevance in this ever-evolving profession.

HRCI's Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) is the perfect certification to help fast-track HR career growth and provide new professionals with the confidence to launch into the HR profession. The aPHR does not require hours of experience as it is the first-ever HR certification designed for professionals who are just beginning their HR career journey and proves an individual's knowledge of foundational Human Resources.

EC students interested in the HR concentration should contact Professor Matthew Burr, assistant professor of business administration, at mburr@elmira.edu.
