Robert Adams '22 Awarded International Student and Marian Ames Memorial Prizes

Elmira, NY (04/05/2021) — The 2021 Elmira College recipient of both the International Student Prize and the Marian Ames Memorial Prize is Robert Angus Adams '22.

"Being recognized for this award means alot to me," said Adams. "My parents have given a lot to allow me to study internationally and to be able to receive some form of recognition to show them, means the world."

Adams, who is from Ottawa, Ontario, is majoring in biochemistry and is a member of the men's baseball team and the Gold Key Society.

The International Student Prize is awarded to a full-time, international student who has completed at least one year of full-time study at Elmira College and who excels in academic and student life. The Marian Ames Chemistry Prize is presented each year by the Class of 1936 in memory of Miss Ames, an outstanding professor of chemistry to an outstanding junior concentrating in chemistry.

"Once you get to know Angus you learn how funny and relatable he is. He has a strong work ethic and has excelled in the sciences here at EC," said Nolan Oxley '13, associate director of admissions and recruitment, who nominated Adams for the International Student Prize.

Each year, students are honored with various prizes and awards at the annual Elmira College Academic Honors Banquet. Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus, the College was unable to host the 2021 ceremony. Students who would have been recognized at that event are being featured through a series of articles and social media posts.
