Student Illustrates Major Through Art

Elmira, NY (02/07/2019) — The February Arts Alive exhibit in Gibson Theatre features the work of nursing major and art minor Kayla Cutting '20.

Cutting started her art career her sophomore year in high school when she took her first real art class, studio art. This class allowed her to work with various types of mediums where she was able to explore which mediums she liked and which she didn't. According to Cutting, her favorite form of art to create is printmaking, while she also enjoys both abstract and representational art.

"I do not intentionally make art to tell stories or show feelings," said Cutting. "My art is just of things that I really enjoy, the majority being anatomical hearts and giraffes. These two things intrigue me and make me believe that complexity can seem simple. Through the use of composition and color, I find my art can create a story or depict an emotion. My work has the ability to pull emotion out of people that I may not recognize in the piece, and I love to see what people interpret my work as."

Cutting's artwork will be on display from February 5-26 in the Gibson Theatre Lobby.
