Student Self-Portrait Showcased in Gibson Theatre

Elmira, NY (05/08/2019) — A self-portrait by Evan Mendoza '21 is the featured student work currently on display in the Gibson Theatre Lobby, now through May 14, 2019.

When asked about his experience and opinion on art, Mendoza stated,"When thinking about art, many people automatically think of painting, drawing, sculpting, and ceramics. However, I believe art can be demonstrated in almost anything in life. Art could be seen in the way a photographer captures the morning dewdrops falling off of a plant. Art could be seen in how a singer makes a well-known song become unique to them by singing it in an entirely different way than the original singer might not have thought of."

Along with his portrait skills, Evan is artistic in a musical sense as well. He was invited to sing the national anthem before the start of the 15th Annual Ice Hockey Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fundraiser at the Frist Arena on April 6. His performance can be heard at this Facebook link.
