The Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Prize Awarded
Elmira, NY (04/07/2021) — The Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Award recognizes an Elmira College junior who has made the greatest contribution in academic achievement, general activities, and citizenship, and who has demonstrated most thoroughly the aims of the College. The award was endowed by Harold McGraw, Sr., former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, in honor of his mother. This year, two students received the award and today we feature Felicity Brockhuizen '22, a double major in biology and psychology.
"This award means a lot to me because it shows the resilience it takes to balance two majors, being a dual-sport athlete, and working three jobs on campus all at once," said Brockhuizen about receiving this prestigious award.
Brockhuizen has had a multitude of achievements while at EC, including induction into Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society, Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, as well as being a Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society Prize Winner.
Her success in the classroom extends onto the field as she is a member of both the softball and field hockey teams at Elmira.
"This award reflects hours and hours of hard work by Felicity. She is meticulous with her studies and involvement in many different activities, including TWO varsity sports. I'm so happy that she is being recognized," said Randall Torgalski, head men's basketball and softball coach, about Brockhuizen's achievements.
