Washington Monthly Ranks Elmira College in Top 20
Elmira, NY (08/31/2022) — The Washington Monthly released its national rankings on Monday, with Elmira College coming in at #18 out of 259 Best Bachelor's Colleges in the nation.
For this list, the monthly news publication compares colleges based on three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. The publication specifically looks at the degree to which colleges recruit and graduate students of modest means, produce the scholarship and scholars that drive economic growth and human flourishing, and encourage students to be active citizens and serve their country.
EC's low student-to-faculty ratio creates a learning experience where students work closely on projects and research, often co-authoring research papers and co-presenting at national conferences. This close-knit experience is combined with community engagement and internship requirements where 100% of students complete an internship prior to graduating. The result is that EC students enjoy a high success rate post-graduation.
Elmira College also rose to #100 on the Washington Monthly's Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: Northeast, up from #132 last year. This list focuses on how well a college helps non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
"These rankings speak directly to the value of an Elmira degree and are reflective of our ability to build professional pathways for students while maintaining one of the lowest undergraduate tuition prices of any four-year private college or university in the region," said Eric Sykes, Vice President for Enrollment Management. "Within nine months of graduation, nearly all of our students are admitted to graduate school or find employment."
