Waters Receives Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Prize
Elmira, NY (04/09/2021) — The Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Award recognizes an Elmira College junior who has made the greatest contribution in academic achievement, general activities, and citizenship, and who has demonstrated most thoroughly the aims of the College. The award was endowed by Harold McGraw, Sr., former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, in honor of his mother. This year, two students received the award and today we feature Alyssa Waters '22.
"It is a great honor to be one of the recipients of the Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Prize," said Waters. "The award is a reflection of the sincere effort that I have made to reach the highest of academic standards at Elmira College. The attainment prize motivates me to continue to make positive contributions to the Elmira College community."
Waters is a member of many clubs and organizations at Elmira including, the women's basketball representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the head chair of partnership and co-funding for the Elmira College Dance Marathon, a member of the TEACH Club, Phi Eta Sigma member, an Elmira College Gold Key Tour Guide, and a future member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.
According to Nolan Oxley '13, associate director of admissions & recruitment, who nominated Waters, "Alyssa is truly dedicated to the field of education and has a passion for literature. Since being a tour guide for us, we have trusted her with mentoring our incoming students to navigate the transition from high school to college."
