Women's Ice Hockey Clinches UCHC Title, Moves on to NCAA Championship Tournament

Elmira, NY (03/04/2019) — After scoring six unanswered goals in the third period, the No. 1/3-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team cruised to an 8-3 win over visiting William Smith College in the 2019 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) title game. With the win, the Soaring Eagles picked up their second consecutive conference championship, the first time EC has done so since winning back-to-back ECAC West titles in 2009 and 2010.

Prior to the championship game, UCHC Commissioner Chuck Mitrano announced that the conference has officially named the UCHC championship trophy the Thompson Trophy in honor of the league's Vice President, and former Elmira College Vice President of Athletics, Pat Thompson.

Elmira's Eliza Beaudin '22 was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player with Shannon Strawinski '19 and Kiana Melvin '20 also receiving All-Tournament honors. Read the full game recap on athletics.elmira.edu.
