25th Annual Julia Reinstein Symposium
Elmira, NY (03/19/2019) — The 25th Annual Julia Reinstein Symposium features Dr. Alexa Yesukevich as the keynote address speaker. Yesukevich's talk, "Hidden in Plain Sight: Thoughts on Remarkable Women in Elmira College's History," is Tuesday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m. in Tifft Lounge. Yesukevich will share some of her research into the circle of women who first began organizing around the idea of creating a rigorous college for women, and who first dreamed up the existence of Elmira College.
Annually the Women's and Gender Studies Program organizes the Julia Reinstein Symposium, made possible by a bequest from college alumna Julia Reinstein '28, a feminist, early lesbian activist, and strong supporter of women's issues. Each year, in cooperation with Students Against Sexism and Stereotypes (SASS) a keynote speaker is invited to campus.
Some symposia include workshops, student research presentations, film screenings, talk-backs, art exhibits, fundraising events, activist projects, or theater performances.
