Annual Art Faculty Exhibit Opens November 8

Elmira, NY (11/07/2018) — The annual art faculty exhibit opens in the George Waters Gallery on Thursday, November 8 with an artist reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The gallery will be filled with new works by faculty members, Chris Longwell, Jan Kather, Derek Chalfant and Aaron Kather.

Gallery goers can expect a few surprises: Longwell is showing new ceramics pieces along with some unexpected lyrical prints that will challenge the viewer to figure out his printmaking secrets. Chalfant has elegantly combined highly polished metals with elements from nature in his large scale sculpture. Jan Kather is showing digitally derived pieces, many being inspired by a watercolor she painted as part of a bicycle ride along the Lackawanna Rail Trail. Using a variety of drawing media, Aaron Kather has engaged in the time honored tradition of self-portraiture. He will also show paintings and a photographic study of an evening visit to the Chemung County Fair.

While the reception offers the chance to talk with the artists, however, those unable to attend on Thursday can view the show through December 6, Monday through Friday from noon until 4:00 p.m. (except during the Thanksgiving holiday).
