Annual Luncheon Recognized Student Interns And Their Contributions To Community

Elmira, NY (04/13/2022) — Select student interns and their supervisors were honored recently for their contributions to active learning and community engagement during the annual Stand Energy Prize Luncheon. During the event, organizers announced this year's recipient of the Stand Energy Prize, Alexandra "Allie" Ellie '22. The Prize, established by Stand Energy Corporation, recognizes an Elmira College student who, in the course of performing an internship with regional businesses or community organizations, has demonstrated outstanding leadership, initiative, creativity, and responsibility.

"It was the goal of Stand Energy Corporation and myself many years ago to establish a program whereby students attending Elmira College would be recognized not only for their own personal achievement and success, but for their ability to improve and give back to the local community of which they belong and have grown within," said Larry Freeman, executive vice president of Stand Energy Corporation. "As we near the 20th anniversary of this program, I would like to take a moment to reflect on these words from President John F. Kennedy: 'Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation'."

Ellie is a pre-med student with a Biology major from Rochester, New York. She was nominated for the Award by her supervisor Brian Banas, Chief Executive Officer, WorkFit Medical, LLC for her internship during the 2020-2021 academic year.

In his nominating form, Banas wrote, "Alexandra exceeded our expectations. She is self-motivated, energetic, and worked well with the medical team. She demonstrated the ability to learn the applicable skills and apply them in the medical setting. Alexandra has excellent communication skills and demonstrates compassion when interacting with patients. We were very fortunate to have her work with our team for this internship."

"Alexandra has a very promising future in medicine," wrote Banas. "She will be an asset to the medical community and patients she serves."
