Colleges of Distinction Recently Recognized Elmira College
Elmira, NY (07/28/2021) — Colleges of Distinction, an advocate for schools with undergraduate programs grounded in a philosophy of well-rounded, individualized engagement, again recognized Elmira College for its commitment to experiential education that pairs liberal arts with professional programs. This honor confirms that Elmira College excels in its goal to support students and provide hands-on experiences that will shape critical thinking and a broad view of the world.
In addition to the College of Distinction honor, Elmira College received specialized recognition in Business, Education, Nursing, and Career Development.
Colleges of Distinction only honors colleges that adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. Additionally, the organization began a few years ago to prioritize high-impact practices that make for a fulfilling, individualized college experience. As part of the selection process, Colleges of Distinction conducts in-depth research and detailed interviews with the schools about each institution's freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more.
"We complete a thorough review of the programs before granting the honors," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. "We're looking for qualities such as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful outcomes for students. It's wonderful to see how Elmira College really exemplifies these qualities."
About the recognized programs:
Education: Graduates future educators who are not only knowledgeable but also efficient mentors who provide empathetic support and novel teaching methods.
Nursing: provides students an opportunity for hands-on learning experiences early in their degree program, combined with an opportunity to work with medical students from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Elmira campus.
Business: Incorporates globalization and the intricacies of modern business operations along with the required effective communication and apt problem-solving strategies. Recently paired with members of the Hilfiger family to launch the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Business School.
