EC Biology Professor Co-Authors Book Chapter
Elmira, NY (01/13/2021) — Dr. Amy Lyndaker, assistant professor of biology at Elmira College, recently co-authored a chapter in the highly esteemed book series Methods in Molecular Biology by Springer Press.
The chapter, published in 2021, volume 2195, describes in detail ways to model and study an aggressive-yet-curable type of cancer using genetic alterations in the Pten tumor suppressor and the K-Ras oncogene. These types of tumors are highly sensitive to DNA-damaging agents like the common chemotherapeutic drug Cisplatin, and thus this work provides insights into the treatment of human cancers with DNA-damaging chemotherapies.
"The experiments described in this chapter help us to understand why some types of cancers respond to standard chemotherapies while other cancers do not," said Lyndaker.
The chapter was written in collaboration with Timothy M. Pierpont, Amanda R. Loehr, and Robert S. Weiss. Volume 2195 was edited by Aditya Bagrodia and James F. Amatruda.
