Elmira College Psi Chi Chapter Inducts 10 Into International Honor Society in Psychology

Elmira, NY (03/28/2022) — Since 1971, the Elmira College chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, has been inducting students of high academic standing into its ranks. On March 27, the Elmira College Chapter of Psi Chi held an induction ceremony in Cowles Hall to recognize 10 students who earned membership in the honor society.

Friends and family joined the ceremony in the Peterson Chapel, which was coordinated by Chapter Advisors Dr. Christopher Terry, Associate Professor of Psychology & Social & Behavioral Sciences Chair, and Dr. Ping Zheng, Assistant Professor of Psychology. The ceremony was conducted by Chapter Officers Eliza Beaudin '22, Mary McCafferty '22, and Felicity Brockhuizen '22.

"I always view induction into Psi Chi as not only an academic honor but an opportunity," said Terry. "Our local chapter of Psi Chi also functions as a psychology club. We have an excellent group of inductees this year and I'm really looking forward to seeing some of them run for positions as chapter officers. This is an important leadership role and a great way to get involved on campus!"

Ten students were recognized:

  • Kristen Aasheim '24
  • Marc Artuz '24
  • Carina Gibbs '23
  • Sydney Harris '21
  • Elizabeth Liscum '24
  • Kiona Morf '24
  • Madison Morton '24
  • Rachel Nagy '24
  • Simon Rice '24
  • Donovan Tanner '24

Psi Chi was founded in 1929 with the goal of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship for the purpose of advancing both the science and application of psychology. Psi Chi''s symbol is based on the Greek letters psi and chi, which have been used for decades in the Psi Chi induction ritual to express the Greek words psyche and cheires, which in turn symbolize mind (scholarship and the enrichment of the mind) and hands (fellowship and cooperation in research).

Congratulations to our newly inducted members!
