Elmira College Receives High Honors in Publication Rankings
Elmira, NY (09/02/2021) — It's the college-ranking season and Elmira College moved up in the Washington Monthly rankings and was named one of the nation's best undergraduate colleges in The Princeton Review's 2022 edition of The Best 387 Colleges.
The Washington Monthly ranked Elmira College #14 on the Best Bachelor's Colleges, up from the #21 spot last year. For this list, the monthly news publication compares colleges based on what they do for the country, looking at three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. The publication specifically looks at the degree to which colleges recruit and graduate students of modest means, produce the scholarship and scholars that drive economic growth and human flourishing, and encourage students to be active citizens and serve their country.
Elmira College also rose to #132 on the Washington Monthly's Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: Northeast, up from #159 last year.
Unlike the Washington Monthly, The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges it includes in its 880-page reference guide. Only about 14% of America's four-year colleges are profiled and colleges are chosen based on student surveys and data collected annually from administrators about their institutions' academic offerings.
The student surveys praised the academic support they receive from their professors and the close-knit community of the campus.
"Elmira College may be small, but we are very proud of our college." One student says, "Just walking through campus you can sense the traditions and how the college values its students."
"Elmira College enables every student to find their own way - on campus and beyond - by bringing together a liberal arts education with professional programs," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, president of Elmira College. "We balance the emotional with the practical and shape critical thinking and a broad view of the world while equipping students with the tools and skills to succeed in the professional world. Recognition by these and other publications is tangible evidence that Elmira is fulfilling its mission to offer students an engaging, immersive, and supportive student-centered education."
