Elmira College Recognized by Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society

Elmira, NY (01/07/2019) — Elmira College has been recognized as "Elmira College Hall" for being a new charter in the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society. The society is the oldest legal organization in continuous existence within the United States, predating even the American Bar Association.

This new Elmira College Pre-Law Society, under Phi Delta Phi, offers several member benefits. Members will have the opportunity to enhance their overall knowledge of law and pursuing a legal career, and gain great knowledge in many other areas. Society members will be exposed to topics such as the LSAT, law school admissions, life as a law student, professional responsibility, and varying careers in the legal field.

Dr. Daniel Clay, Elmira College assistant professor of criminal justice and legal studies, is a current Phi Delta Phi member and was able to bring the undergraduate arm of Phi Delta Phi to campus. According to Clay, "In law school, you generally have to be at or very close to the top of your class to be inducted into this honor society. To be inducted, speaks volumes of those who are fortunate enough to attain that honor."

Students looking to join the Elmira College Hall must meet the following criteria to be considered for membership:

  • The student must be in the "pre-law" program;
  • The student must be a member of the "Pre-Law Club"; and
  • The student will remit the Phi Delta Phi initiation fee directly to the organization.

Students have until January 18, 2019, to sign-up as a Charter Member. Registrations received after this date qualify a student as a regular member.
