Elmira College Recognized for Support of Transfer Students
Elmira, NY (03/01/2021) — Elmira College was recently named to the 2021 Transfer Honor Roll by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) for the dynamic pathways the College has created to support transfer students.
"We were honored to be included in Phi Theta Kappa's 2021 Transfer Honor Roll," said Dr. Jackie Van Brunt, dean of admissions at Elmira College. "Whether a student is transferring to EC from a two-year school or another four-year institution, we have a full-time transfer counselor, Jenn Robinson, dedicated to helping them through that process."
The Transfer Honor Roll, made possible by a $100,000 grant from The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, recognizes four-year colleges and universities that have developed transfer pathways that lead to excellence and success among community college transfer students. Colleges were selected based on their Transfer Friendliness Rating, which is determined by the Transfer Profile they create in PTK Connect, an online tool that helps students find their best-fit colleges, career pathways, and more.
"Elmira College's Transfer Promise has made the transfer process a seamless transition for students looking to complete their four-year degrees at EC," said Robinson. "We offer students a credit evaluation before they even apply, so they know exactly which courses will transfer. They're also eligible for merit-based scholarships and are guaranteed on-campus housing."
Elmira College offers articulation, or transfer, agreements with several two-year colleges, including Corning Community College, Tompkins County Community College, and Broome Community College.
"The transfer process was very easy due to the articulation program that Corning Community College has with Elmira College," said Laura Storms '23, now an adolescence education major at EC. "Since I have been a student at EC, I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, and Omicron Delta Kappa. The professors and students at Elmira College made the campus feel like home and it felt like a family in my education cohort. They are always willing to make time to help me with any assignment or problem that I may run into with my content classes or education classes."
Transfer students can transfer into any of the 25-plus degree programs that EC currently offers its undergraduate students. For students interested in the health sciences, Elmira College offers nursing and pre-med students unique opportunities, such as joint simulation labs, through its affiliation with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
