Elmira College Signs Agreement with BU School of Pharmacy

3+4 program to ease transition of Elmira graduates into pharmacy school

Elmira, NY (12/12/2019) — Elmira College has entered into an articulation agreement with the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences that will allow students to transfer into Binghamton's Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program after three years of undergraduate study. This is a 3+4 program that will allow qualified Elmira students to complete their bachelor of science degree in biochemistry through coursework taken in their first professional year at Binghamton.

"We're thrilled with this agreement with Elmira College that creates a smooth path for Elmira students to transition to our school," said Gloria Meredith, founding dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. "These are highly qualified students who will build a partnership with Elmira College, and will join with other students from around the state and beyond to become pharmacy professionals offering patient-centered care."

"This partnership with Binghamton University provides our biochemistry students another excellent option for pursuing a career in pharmacy," said Lynn Gillie, Elmira College pre-health professions advisor and professor of biology. "Students planning to graduate early from Elmira may advance directly into the pharmacy degree program at Binghamton, providing Elmira students a seamless transition to the next stage of their professional careers."

Students must have successfully completed the required prerequisite credits from Elmira College with a specified grade point average (GPA), and apply no later than Sept. 30 of their third year at Elmira. They must also carry a minimum cumulative and math/science GPA of 3.0. Students must achieve a minimum composite score of 50 on the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) taken on or before the January test date. The PCAT will be waived for students who achieve a GPA of 3.1 or higher.

For more information on this and other 3+4 pre-health program options, EC students can contact Lynn Gillie, pre-health professions advisor and professor of biology, at lgillie@elmira.edu.
