Elmira College Theatre Presents 'Nunsense'

Elmira, NY (05/17/2019) — Elmira College Theatre closes its 2018-2019 season with Nunsense by Dan Gogin. Performances are scheduled May 24 and 25 at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee May 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Gibson Theatre at Elmira College.

The show follows the "Little Sisters of Big Flats" as they raise money to bury sisters accidently poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). Updated with new jokes, additional lyrics, two new arrangements, and a brand-new song, this is a zany musical.

Nunsense (1985) is a musical comedy with book, music, and lyrics by Dan Goggin. Originating as a line of greeting cards, Goggin expanded the concept into a cabaret show that ran for 38 weeks, and eventually into a full-length musical. The original Off-Broadway production opened December 12, 1985, running for 3,672 performances and becoming the second-longest-running Off-Broadway show in history (after The Fantasticks). The show has since been adapted for television, starring Rue McClanahan, and has spawned six sequels and three spin-offs.

The Elmira College Theatre production of Nunsense features Avery Yeats, Breana Millard, Abigail Cox, Sadie Kennett and Rachel Feltz. The production is under the direction of George H. de Falussy, with scenic design and lighting design by George H. de Falussy, musical direction by Randy Cornell, choreography by Rachel Feltz. Scott McGuire serves as technical director, with stage management by Emma Faunce, assisted by Catherine Smugereski.

All Elmira College Theatre productions are free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 p.m., with matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
