Elmira College to Host Regional Undergraduate Biology Research Conference

Elmira, NY (04/16/2021) — Elmira College's Eta Sigma chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) National Biological Honor Society is hosting this year's Northeast-1 (NE-1) Regional District Convention on Saturday, April 24. Undergraduate students and faculty members from colleges and universities across the northeastern United States will gather virtually to present and discuss their research.

"Elmira College has a strong history of promoting undergraduate research, particularly in the natural sciences, so we are really excited to be able to host this undergraduate biology research conference," said Dr. Amy Lyndaker, assistant professor of biology at Elmira College and Convention organizer.

This year's NE-1 Convention features a keynote address by Dr. Jean C. Hardwick, chair and professor of biology at Ithaca College, who will speak on her research studying neuronal regulation of cardiac function.

The convention also features undergraduate student oral presentations and poster presentations, including research presentations by Elmira College students Julia Ambrose '23, Ryan Hardy '23, Emma Kelly '21, Cameron Sanderson '21, Elizabeth Shephard '21, Joshua Smith '22, and Catherine Smugereski '22.

EC's Eta Sigma chapter officers and members will help to facilitate the logistics of the convention. Convention attendees registered to date hail from Northeastern University, St. John Fisher College, Trinity College, Long Island University, Niagara University, University of Saint Joseph, Dominican College, Hofstra University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Framingham State University, Emmanuel College, SUNY Rockland Community College, and Pace University.
