Elmira, NY (10/04/2018) — This weekend, October 5-7, is Family Weekend. A favorite for most students, this is the first time many have seen their families since they came to, or moved back into EC about a month ago. The weekend is packed with activities every day.
Events begin Friday with the inaugural Bette A. Mammone '78 Memorial Academy with speaker Steven Glick '78 who will be talking about his personal and career highlights. This event will be held in the Peterson Chapel in Cowles Hall beginning at 4 p.m. Following the academy, families can choose from a variety of events throughout the night including lawn games, ice cream sundae making, a performance by Dueling Pianos in MacKenzie's starting at 7:00 p.m., and a performance of "Proof" by the EC Theatre program at 8:00 p.m. in Gibson Theatre.
Saturday kicks off with the 51st annual Octagon Fair starting at 10:00 a.m. on the central campus lawn between Campus Center and Meier Hall. Local vendors, businesses, and on-campus clubs and organizations will have booths with different family-friendly activities, giveaways, and goods for sale. Evening activities include a Murder Mystery Dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Dining hall, another 8:00 p.m. performance of "Proof" by the EC Theatre program in Gibson Theatre, and an All That Jazz Coffeehouse in MacKenzie's beginning at 10:00 p.m.
The Soaring Eagles will also be in action during the day with field hockey at home vs Stevens Institute of Technology at 11:00 a.m. and a women's tennis match vs Nazareth College at 1:00 p.m., both at the Murray Athletic Center. The EC Cross Country team will host a Run with the Seniors 5K immediately following the field hockey game at the MAC. All are welcome to join this run.
