Graduating Reception Celebrates the Brilliant Class of 2019
Elmira, NY (03/27/2019) — The Brilliant Class of 2019 recently celebrated the annual Graduating Class Reception in Tifft Lounge on March 22. The celebration included presentations of the Outstanding Graduate Award, Alumnae and Alumni Rings, and alumni pins, as well as the announcement of Candlelight Speakers.
This year's Outstanding Graduate Award for the Class of 2019 was presented to Mhairi Holmes '19 by President Charles Lindsay. Jean MacGregor Horn '67 donated the Alumnae Ring, which had been presented to her by her aunt, Helen Louise MacGregor '34, to Sydney Stringham '19. The Alumnae Ring is given to a female student who embodies the spirit of Elmira College, based on her EC experience including leadership, service to the College, and fellow students. Justin Gillule '19 was the recipient of the Alumni Ring, presented to him by Alumni Board member and previous Ring recipient, Chad Thorley ' 02.
Makayla Krause '19, president of the Class of 2019, gave the Class response and, along with Blake Phelps '19, was announced as one of the two Class of 2019 Candlelight Speakers.
The Alumni Association Board of Directors then presented alumni pins to the graduating class, followed by a champagne toast given by Alumni Association President, Bo Manuel '82.
The Graduating Class Reception was followed by the "100 Days Dinner," which welcomes the class into the ranks of the College's alumni and the beginning of Commencement celebrations.
