Huling Humel Co-Authors Alzheimer Paper

Elmira, NY (10/09/2020) — Elmira College student and Elmira native, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel recently served as lead author on a paper entitled, "A Summary of Commentaries Submitted by Those Living with Dementia and Care Partners."

The paper, which is available online, is a collection of responses to the "Call for Commentaries from Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease or Other Dementias and Care Partners" that was issued by the National Academies of Arts, Sciences and Medicine Advisory Panel.

"It is an honor for me to serve as the co-chair of the Advisory Panel to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine's (NASEM) Alzheimer's Decadal Study," said Huling Humel. "The study is focusing on developing a research agenda for the next decade in the behavioral and social sciences as it relates to Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRD). The advisory panel provides input reflecting the experience of individuals living with dementia or directly impacted by it, to the Decadal Study Committee and staff."

Prior to her work with NASEM, Cynthia served two years on the National Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care and Services and has presented at three NIH Research Summits. She first enrolled at Elmira College in 2011 as a continuing education student. A lifelong learner, she has taken 40 classes at EC to-date.
