Juried Student Show Next for Arts Alive

Elmira, NY (02/22/2019) — As Elmira College continues to celebrate Arts Alive, the Gannett-Tripp Library lobby will feature works of Juried Student Art winner Emily Clark '19 and art alumna Christina Nurczynski '14 throughout the month of March.

Clark's proposal to exhibit her portfolio of traditional film photographs was selected for this show by juror Laurie Snyder, retired professor from Maryland Institute College of Art. Professor Snyder noted Emily's "attention to small moments of beauty evident in all of her photos." Emily's proposal, as well as Juried Art Exhibition works exhibited in the past, can be found here.

Showing simultaneously with Clark's work will be work by art alumna Christina Nurczynski '14. Nurczynski , who was the EC Juried Student Art winner in her senior year at Elmira College, graduated with a bachelor's degree in art with a dual concentration in sculpture and painting. Nurczynski currently works in Corning as the program manager for 171 Cedar Arts Center. She is an active member of the Sister Cities Association of Corning, New York, whose mission is to promote peace through international exchange programs. Nurczynski serves in a number of roles with the organization, including as a member of the Kakegawa Japan delegation committee. In 2016 Nurczynski traveled to Japan, exploring Tokyo, Kyoto and most importantly, experiencing homestays with three Japanese families in Kakegawa. This experience developed her world view and created a visible change in her art. Moving from primarily representational artwork, Nurczynski has enjoyed moving toward the artistic freedom of abstract work, often inspired by the work of Heather Day and Anne Wilson.

The exhibit in the Library is free and open to the public. It can be seen during regular library hours.
