Key Award Celebrates Outstanding High School Students
Elmira, NY (08/21/2018) — The Office of Admissions recently welcomed 130 Key Award recipients and their families to campus for the first annual Key Award Celebration Day.
The day included a welcome from Sarah Hammer '13, Elmira College employer relations specialist, who had received the Key Award as a rising senior.
"At the root of each tradition, there is a certain degree of magic and positive emotions that radiate in the act of sharing or passing on the experience with others. One may feel a sense of purpose, excitement, fulfillment or even joy," shared Hammer. "At the core of today's Key Award Celebration day, you will find these same sentiments. While each person in the room comes from different walks of life, we are all united by the tradition of the Elmira College Key Award."
Following the welcome, students and their families toured campus and enjoyed a luncheon at which each student received a certificate recognizing their achievement.
The Elmira College Key Award, sponsored by the Elmira College Alumni Association, has been awarded to students since 1935. An award of merit, the Key Award recognizes outstanding students in their junior year of high school or preparatory school.
Recipients who go on to attend Elmira College receive an annual Key Award Scholarship and are honored in the fall of their freshman year by the Alumni Association, which presents recipients with the prestigious Elmira College Key pin.
