Kyle Kokoskie '22: The Margaret Locke Community Service Prize

Elmira, NY (05/04/2021) — Today's featured academic award recipient is Kyle Kokoskie '22, this year's recipient of the Margaret Locke Community Service Prize. The award is given annually to an Elmira College student who has demonstrated a spirit of service to the campus and wider communities, provides a model of community involvement, and makes a difference in the lives of others through service.

"Being recognized for this prize means a lot," said Kokoskie. "I enjoy being involved in the community. Community service has taught me to help, even if it's just one person. You don't need a reason to help. Be the change!"

Kokoskie is a member of the EC men's basketball team, is the team's Student Athlete Advisory Committee representative, and serves as the student assistant coach for the softball program. He has won a plethora of prizes, including the Langdon Award, Simeon Benjamin Scholarship, and the Merit Award. Kokoskie will be interning with the Rutgers University Football Operations team this summer.

Head men's basketball and softball coach Randall Torgalski, who nominated Kokoskie for the award, said "Kyle has done a tremendous job investing into his experience here at Elmira College and the entire Southern Tier. His resume already speaks for itself. I'm very proud of him. This award is very well-deserved."

The Margaret Locke Community Service Prize was endowed by Barbara Linenthal '75 and other friends of Dr. Margaret Locke, professor emerita of physical education.
