Move-In Mondays: Campus Hotspots
Elmira, NY (08/16/2021) — Soon, students will be arriving for the first time to live on campus. We know arriving at a new place, even one you have visited can be a bit disorienting. That's why our "Move-In Monday" series continues today with some campus orienteering. The Residence Life team shared some of the go-to spots on campus that will help you settle in and make life at Elmira College a little easier.
Begin by downloading and printing the campus map to have on-hand your first week.
Here are important things to know about some of the buildings:
McGraw Hall
- Home to many of the business offices you may need to speak to from time to time including:
- The Bursar's Office is where to handle any billing questions or make payments. This is different than the Financial Aid Office, but both offices are located on the first floor.
- The Registrar's Office handles all student records. Stop by this office, also on the first floor, if you have questions about class registration or transcripts.
Post Office
- Located near the fountain and across from the Bookstore, this is where you go if you need to mail or ship something.
Campus Center
- A central spot on campus. The CC is home to Campus Life, Residence Life, the George Waters Art Gallery, the Multicultural Center, Tifft Lounge and the main campus dining options: the Dining Hall (second floor), the 1855 Room that serves Starbucks (first floor) and MacKenzie's (first floor).
- The Residence Life Office is located in the Campus Life Suite on the first floor of Campus Center. You will also find Residence Life Professional Staff in specific residence halls who are there to help make your transition easier.
Corey House
- If your ID card is lost or stolen, visit Campus Safety located in the Corey House (720 Park Place, across the street from McGraw Hall).
- Add the Campus Safety number to your contacts in your cell phone: 607-735-1777. Campus Safety personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in the event of an emergency or for assistance, including escorts anywhere on campus at any time.
- Be sure to sign up for our Alert system to receive emergency and weather-related alerts.
Gannett-Tripp Library
- Home to many helpful spots, including Career Services, the Tutoring Center, computer labs, and the IT Help Desk, as well as Counseling, Student Success, and the Writing Center.
Clarke Health Center
- This is the place that can help manage prescription medications. They also help treat colds, strains, or scrapes. Need a mask? Visit the Clarke Health Center. Feeling ill with coronavirus-type symptoms? Immediately make an appointment with the Clarke Health Center by calling (607) 735-1750 or emailing Director of Health Services, Wendy Fiscus, at wfiscus@elmira.edu.
- The CHC is also home to Counseling. Students have the option of in-person, telephone, or virtual appointments with a counselor. Appointments are scheduled through the Clarke Health Center, 607-735-1750.
Emerson Hall
- Home to Speidel Gymnasium, our fitness center, and Gibson Theatre.
While strolling the campus grounds, remember masks are required indoors and outdoors if you are not yet fully vaccinated. Masks have been an important tool in helping prevent the spread of COVID-19, so even those who are vaccinated are encouraged to wear them, particularly if they are purple and gold.
Can't find something, or have questions? Don't be afraid to ask fellow classmates, upperclassmen, or any staff member. Until then, enjoy all that our beautiful campus has to offer!
