Stephanie Johnson Helps Area Schools Become More Inclusive
Elmira, NY (12/22/2021) — Stephanie Johnson, assistant professor of inclusive special education, is helping teachers implement inclusive teaching practices in their classrooms. She's doing this by connecting the higher-education community with current practitioners through a series of free webinars open to the public.
On Dec. 10 and Dec. 13, she presented "Co-Teaching: What's Going Right So FarAnd What's Not?" and "Co-Teaching: Taking Steps Toward Effective Inclusive Practices."
The webinar content, which responds to the rise in inclusive practices in schools around the country, stems from her research on teacher collaboration conducted in local schools. Her webinars highlight the complexities of co-teaching, needed support for current teachers, and implications for teacher education programs.
For those interested, a recording of Johnson's Dec. 13 webinar is available on the Council for Exceptional Children's (CEC) website. The CEC is the largest international organization dedicated to advancing the success of children with disabilities and those with special gifts and talents through advocacy, standards and professional development.
