Students Attend, Present at National Conference

Elmira, NY (03/02/2020) — Members of the Elmira College chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society recently attended the Pi Sigma Alpha National Student Research Conference, held at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

While at the conference, the students attended sessions on international relations, American politics, and public policy as well as sessions on foreign policy, legislative affairs, living and working in Washington, and attending graduate school. Three EC students also presented at the conference:

  • Derek Caramella '21 presented a paper titled "The Minimum Wage Index: The Wage Floor and Marginal Labor Production."
  • Bianca Palese '21 presented on "Women's Impact in Foreign Policy."
  • Adam Horey '21 presented a paper titled "Attack Advertisements, Subliminal Messaging, and their Effect on Voter Decision Making."

"This trip gave Elmira College students, like myself, an amazing experience to present our research to political scientists and undergraduate students from colleges and universities from across the country," said Adam Horey '21, vice president of the EC Pi Sigma Alpha chapter. "Additionally, the feedback I received during my presentation has been incredibly valuable in helping steer my future research in political communications."

Also attending the conference was Zackarie Stedge '21, Alexandra Brockhuizen '22, and Dr. Kunihiko Imai, advisor for the EC chapter.

Pi Sigma Alpha seeks to promote excellence in the study of political science through a variety of programs, some of direct benefit to student members and local chapters and others benefitting more generally the profession of political science.
