Students Honored with Iris Leadership Award
Elmira, NY (05/08/2020) — Each year Elmira College awards upperclassmen students with the Iris Leadership Award. This year, the award was presented to Evelyn Schoenberger '22 and Noah Dorchester '21.
Named for the College flower, from which the College colors of purple and gold are derived, the Iris Leadership Prize is presented annually to students who have shown outstanding leadership activities beyond the classroom at Elmira College.
"When I found out I was receiving the Iris Leadership Award, I was shocked," said Schoenberger. "I've always been told I was a leader, but never really understood what others saw. My actions have never been done in hopes for recognition, but simply out of the kindness of my heart. As Nelson Mandela once said, 'Lead from the back and let others believe they are in front.'"
"Winning this award at Elmira College is wholesome," noted Dorchester. "I feel honored because the college has noticed all my efforts, determination, and strengths. These are all the qualities that I possess as a leader, and I do it all with respect. Being a leader isn't always the easiest task, but I have loved making a positive impact for EC! Thank you again for the prestigious award."
