Students Inducted Into International Psychology Honor Society

Elmira, NY (03/21/2019) — On March 10, the Elmira College Chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, inducted 12 new members during a ceremony and reception held in Cowles Hall.

Psi Chi was founded in 1929 with the goal of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship for the purpose of advancing both the science and application of psychology. Psi Chi's symbol is based on the Greek letters psi and chi, which have been used for decades in the Psi Chi induction ritual to express the Greek words psyche and cheires, which in turn symbolize mind (scholarship and the enrichment of the mind) and hands (fellowship and cooperation in research).

Since 1971, when the Elmira College chapter was founded, we have been inducting students of high academic standing into Psi Chi's ranks. This year's inductees include:

Class of 2019
Alyna Haywood '19
Calvin Hughson '19
Sarah O'Hanrahan '19

Class of 2020

Emma Faunce '20
Cheyenne Stansfield '20
Natalie Straut '20

Class of 2021
Victoria Dunham '21
Sienna Fleury '21

Christopher Terry and Ping Zheng, assisted with the induction proceedings, which were conducted by this year's student officers: Kendrick Wood '19 (President), Liam Mason '19 (Vice President), Jillian Leighton '19 (Treasurer), Cortney Conklin '19 (Secretary), and Amanda Campbell '19 (Senator).
