Students Present at 11th Annual Student Research Conference
Elmira, NY (05/18/2021) — The Eleventh Annual Elmira College Student Research Conference, was held virtually via Zoom and Gather Town on May 12, 2021. The event showcased 11 independent research projects from 17 students presenting on a wide range of topics in psychology, criminal justice, biology, mathematics, human services, and more.
A panel of nine faculty judges evaluated the quality, organization, content, and clarity of the student presentations. The 2021 prize for best oral research presentation was awarded to Kate Kane '23 and Lynne Morse '23 for their work entitled, "Family Renewal Matters." The prize for best research poster presentation this year was a tie, split between the poster by Emma Kelly '21 entitled, "Using Evolutionary Analysis of the HUS1 Subunit and In-Fusion Cloning to Understand How the RAD9-RAD1-HUS1 Complex Functions in Mammalian Cells," and a poster by Julia Ambrose '23 and Ryan Hardy '23 entitled, "Cloning of the Human Rad9a and Hus1 Genes in Order to Test for Functional Interactors of the 9-1-1 Complexes." John Mullan '21 also earned an honorable mention for his poster presentation entitled, "Analyzing the Fairness of the Iowa Democratic Caucus."
This annual event is sponsored by the Provost's Office and organized by faculty volunteers.
