Students To Dance On April 30 To Raise Money For Children's Miracle Network

Elmira, NY (04/11/2022) — On Saturday, April 30, anyone passing by the Elmira College Campus Center may see some interesting dance moves. The Elmira College Dance Marathon (ECDM) will be from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the Campus Center Portico. This annual event does more than help students burn calories. Students, faculty, staff, and community members can get their groove on to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) at Arnot Ogden Medical Center,

Organizers hope to raise $10,000 this year and are seeking more dance teams as well as donations. Everyone is welcome to participate.

"The Dance Marathon's impact is real! With the help of Children's Miracle Network and Arnot Ogden Medical Center this cause has really saved children's lives," said Annabelle Schmitte '23, ECDM Event Director.

The event will be in-person after going virtual last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The theme is based on the board game Candyland.

"It's exciting that the EC community can experience Dance Marathon as it was a couple of years ago," said James Blair '23, ECDM Finance Executive. "We have a lot planned and a lot of hope for this year's event. With the right steps, I believe we can reach our goal."

Last year, ECDM participants raised $6,170 and, since it was founded in 2015, the event has raised more than $60,000 for CMN at Arnot Health. These funds help address high-risk maternity and newborn intensive care needs.

Those interested in participating in ECDM or making a donation in support of CMN, can visit the ECDM webpage. Registration is free and those who fundraise at least $15 will receive a t-shirt.

"This is my third year helping out with this event and I'm thrilled that I am not only a part of it but experiencing it as it was when I first started," said Blair.

"If everyone donated a dollar we could make our goal. We could even beat our goal! A single dollar for the kids; spread the word," exclaimed Schmitte.
