Nurse Education Faculty Recognition for Excellence in Nursing

Each year the Elmira College Nurse Education Faculty Recognition for Excellence in Nursing is presented to an outstanding graduating senior nursing student who represents the profession of nursing. He or she has actively participated in the Nurse Education program, such as serving as a student representative with the standing committees, ad hoc committee, and/or active involvement in the Nursing Club of Elmira College.

Margaret Locke Citizenship Award

The Margaret Locke Citizenship award is given annually to an Elmira College student-athlete who has demonstrated a spirit of service to the campus and wider communities, provides a model of community involvement, and makes a difference in the lives of others through service. It is given in honor of Dr. Margaret Chase Locke, who served as a professor and director of physical education at EC for thirty years. She was very committed to community service at the local, regional, and national level.

Elmira College students completed the Soaring Higher Leadership program. Over the course of eight weeks, the students learned about the importance of knowing their values and skills, listened to speakers talk about their leadership journeys, and helped each other grow as leaders.

Each year students in the Elmira College graduating class vote for one male and female speaker to represent the experiences, hopes and dreams of the graduating class at the annual Candlelight Ceremony, held the evening before Commencement. This event marks the final night for Elmira College graduates just before they Commence or begin a new part of their lives. This year's Candlelight Speakers are Rachel Bortnick '25 and Ryan Trenholm '25.
