The Helen Hitchcock Bjorvand Drawing Prize was endowed in recognition of an extraordinary member of the art faculty and is presented annually to the full-time Elmira College student submitting the best portfolio of drawings.

The Hypatia Mathematics Prize is awarded to a female junior who exhibits enthusiasm for mathematics and the desire to share that passion with others through education or other career endeavors. The goal of the prize is to recognize more women for their interest and competency in this important field of study.

The First-Year Writing Prize is awarded to a first-year student who has completed the Academic Writing course and demonstrated mastery in writing, critical thinking, and oral communication skills.

The Elmira College CRC Basic Chemistry Prize is presented to an outstanding first-year student studying chemistry, based on performance in both the lecture and lab classes.

The Corning Section of the American Chemical Society Award is presented each year to an outstanding first-year student studying chemistry.

The Elmira College Chapter of Psi Chi held an induction ceremony to recognize 5 students who earned membership in the honor society.

Elmira College students completed the Soaring Higher Leadership program. Over the course of eight weeks, the students learned about the importance of knowing their values and skills, listened to speakers talk about their leadership journeys, and helped each other grow as leaders.

The Class of 2000 Prize is given annually to two deserving first-year students going into the sophomore class who exemplify the standards and spirit of Elmira College.

The Cantrill-van den Blink Scholarship is given to two rising nursing seniors interested in working in the Arnot Health System following their graduation from Elmira College. Students are expected to work for Arnot Health for a minimum of two consecutive years.

Each year, the Elmira College Board of Trustees Prize is presented by the Trustees to students whose college experience demonstrates continual growth and development academically, socially, or in service to the College community.

The Algernon DeWaters Gorman Prize, was endowed as an award for the Elmira College junior with a good overall average who has completed the most scholarly work in chemistry.

The Elmira College Office of Admissions recently announced the awardees for this year's Elmira College Scholars Program.

The Pi of New York chapter held its annual induction and banquet with 14 newly elected members of high scholarly attainment. Prizes were also awarded to six outstanding juniors and 10 promising sophomores.

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, recently inducted 7 student members into the Elmira College circle, or chapter.

Each year students in the Elmira College graduating class vote for one male and female speaker to represent the experiences, hopes and dreams of the graduating class at the annual Candlelight Ceremony, held the evening before Commencement. This event marks the final night for Elmira College graduates just before they Commence or begin a new part of their lives. This year's Candlelight Speakers are Rachel Bortnick '25 and Ryan Trenholm '25.

Each year lifetime positions, including Class Reporters, are named for the graduating class. This year the Tenacious Class of 2025 has named Aidan Cole '25 and Miranda Waterman '25 for Class Reporter.

The Tenacious Class of 2025 recently celebrated the annual Graduating Class Reception on March 14. The celebration included the presentation of the Outstanding Graduate Award to Ryan Trenholm '25.

Each year lifetime positions, including Class Agents, are named for the graduating class. This year the Tenacious Class of 2025 has named Nick Lees '25 and Danielle Knapp '24 for Class Agents.

Each year, graduating seniors receive honorary awards and position appointments as a part of the Graduating Class Reception. Among these awards and positions is the Alumni Ring recipients. This year's recipient is Linda Avery '25.

The Elmira College Chapter of Iota Iota Iota (or Triota), the National Women's Honor Society, recently held its annual induction ceremony. Triota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women's Studies: egalitarianism, inclusiveness, and a celebration of the diversity of women's experiences.

Each year in the Term II Student Art Show, select artwork from students is displayed in the George Waters Art Gallery. This year's pieces include paintings, ceramics, sculptures, drawings, prints, and videos.

Elmira College released its Dean's List for Academic Achievement for the Fall 2024 Term. The Dean's List recognizes full-time undergraduate students who were registered for at least 12 computable credit hours and who earned a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher.

The 2024 Obler Summer Research Program at Elmira College included nine students.

Rachel Bortnick '25, a Biology and Environmental Science major, wasn't particularly interested in bees before the summer. She was even a little afraid of them. That was before Dr. Daniel Kjar, Professor of Biology at Elmira College, encouraged her to intern with the North Carolina State University BeeMORE (Bees and Microbes in Organized Research Experiences) summer research program, Bortnick's love for the small pollinators blossomed, as did her confidence in her research skills.

Paige Cotton '27, Pre-Law and Sociology & Anthropology double major, traveled more than 3,500 miles to London, England this past summer to participate in the Lex Fellowship Pre-Law program. The intense study abroad sparked new thinking about how to be successful as a lawyer and boosted her confidence to chase her career dream.

Alexandra Stilo '26, an Elmira College Business Administration major in the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Business School, listened closely when fashion icon Thomas J. Hilfiger gave some sage advice. Speaking two years ago as part of a virtual panel discussion, he encouraged aspiring Fashion Business students to start as sales associates to gain a customer-focused perspective as they advance in the industry. Taking his words to heart, Stilo completed an internship at Mixology in Rye Brook, New York, that opened her eyes to the many facets of store management and fashion marketing.

Zacchariah Spencer '25, a Pre-Med and Biology major, recently interned with the Emergency Department, completing 10-hour shifts and disrupting sleep to learn everything he could about the profession he aspires to. Spencer, like many who choose to become emergency medicine doctors, wants to help people. But he has an added ambition. A young father, he's eager to be in a profession that will provide for his infant daughter Ariah as she grows up.
