Elmira College

The Elmira College Department of Athletics recognized the achievements made by its student-athletes and staff members throughout the 2019-2020 academic year during the 50th Annual Athletics Award Banquet, held virtually through web stories and a multi-day social media campaign, beginning on May 18 and concluding on May 21.

Each year the Emerson Liscum Diven Prize is presented to an Elmira College senior who has high academic achievement and has contributed the most scholarly work in biology. The Prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Biology.

Elmira College released its Dean's List for Academic Achievement for students in the Continuing Education Division for the 2019-2020 academic year. Part-time undergraduate students who have, during the current academic year, achieved a grade point average of 3.600 or higher at the end of the Spring Term and who have completed at least twelve graded credits during the current academic year are placed on the Dean's List for the Division of Continuing Education.

The Sharon Cosloy-Blank '66 Science Prize, given in memory of Sharon Cosloy-Blank '66 by her family, is awarded to a senior who has demonstrated excellence in scientific research in the areas of molecular biology, genetics, and/or biochemistry, including students who have completed a summer research program at another institution.

Each year, the Dr. Louise Frances Potter Prize is given in memory of Dr. Potter, an outstanding microbiologist at Elmira College, to a superior graduate in Biology.

Each year, in memoriam by her family, the Elizabeth Anne Graham '42 Prize is awarded to one graduating Elmira College student. This prize is presented to the graduate who, in the judgment of the Department of Art, shows the greatest promise in the field of applied art.

Each year, one student is awarded the Katheleen Arnott Watters '65 Prize, given by Mrs. Watters, a member of the Class of 1965. The Kathleen Arnott Watters '65 Humanities Prize recognizes an exceptional graduating student in English Literature or History whose work exemplifies the ideals of scholarly inquiry and demonstrates a passion for the humanities.

Each year, one Elmira College student receives an endowed award that recognizes the student's ability to demonstrate academic and clinical excellence in nursing. This award is the Dr. Kathleen Sward Prize, which was established and endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Edward Grandt. Dr. Kathleen Sward was the first Director of the Elmira College Nurse Education Program. Dr. Grandt, a highly respected physician and former trustee of the College, was instrumental in the development of the Elmira College Nurse Education Program.

The Abraham Shabanowitz Mathematics Prize was established by Dr. Harry Shabanowitz, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, in memory of his father. The annual Prize is awarded to a graduating student who shows outstanding achievement in the field of mathematics.

Each year, one Elmira College student is recognized with the Kathryn Jenkins Education Prize. The prize is awarded to the graduating student, either graduate or undergraduate, who shows the greatest promise in the field of childhood education.

The Elmira College Investment Club recently announced Matt Amoddio '22 as the winner for the Club's inaugural virtual trading contest.

The Elmira College New York Alpha Rho chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Mathematical Sciences Honor Society, recently inducted three new members, Destiny Decker '21, Tyra Holden '22, and Zackarie Stedge '21.

Each year, the George Waters Art Gallery exhibits select pieces from current senior students as a part of the annual Senior Show. This year the Senior Show exhibits are online due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Among the awards given out as a part of the Elmira College 100 Days Class Reception, one student typically receives the Outstanding Graduate Award. Today we highlight this year's recipient, Zach Williamson '20.

Each year, graduating seniors receive honorary awards and position appointments as a part of the Graduating Class Reception. Among these awards and positions are the Alumnae and Alumni Ring recipients. This year's recipients are Rachel Berg '20 and Anthony Parrucci '20.

Each year students in the Elmira College graduating class vote for one male and female speaker to represent the experiences, hopes and dreams of the graduating class at the annual Candlelight Ceremony, held the evening before Commencement. This event marks the final night of a four year experience for Elmira College graduates just before they Commence or begin a new part of their lives. This year's Candlelight Speakers are Cierra Marino '20 and Landon Miller '20.

Each year, the Elmira College Board of Trustees Prize is presented by the Trustees to students whose college experience demonstrates continual growth and development academically, socially, or in service to the College community. This year, four students have been named recipients: Jesse Adelson '20, Alex VanAernam '20, Jacob Weber '20, and Nicole Hanselman '20.

The Elmira College President's Council is pleased to announce Zackarie Stedge '21 as this year's recipient of Stand Energy Prize. The Prize, established by Stand Energy Corporation, recognizes an Elmira College student who, in the course of performing an internship with regional businesses or community organizations, has demonstrated outstanding leadership, initiative, creativity, and responsibility.

Kristen Tull '22 was recently the Featured Student Artist as a part of the Annual Arts Alive Celebration. Her work can be found on display online.

The Elmira College Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Alpha Psi Omega recently inducted new members to the honor society.

Several awards are given out each year to both students and faculty, including those that highlight the arts. This year, two prizes have been awarded for excellence in the arts, The Daniel Lipson Prize, and the Mary Lou Parella '65 prize. This year's recipients include Breanna Millard '22, Taylor Kibbler '21, and Marisa Woodley '23.

The Class of 2000 Prize is given annually to a deserving freshman man going into the sophomore class who exemplifies the standards and spirit of Elmira College. This year, Brendan Leong '23 has been named the recipient of the prize.

The Mildred Whittlesey McGraw Attainment Award recognizes a junior who has made the greatest contribution in academic achievement, general activities, and citizenship, and who has demonstrated most thoroughly the aims of the College. This year, three students have earned the award, Cameron Sanderson '21, Shawn Backus '21, and Rachel Feltz '21.

Each year, awards are presented to students who exemplify excellence and knowledge of their respective concentrations within the accounting major. This year, three students have been named recipients for the Excellence in Auditing, Excellence in Accounting, and Excellence in Tax Awards. The recipients are Taylor McDuffee '20, Margaret Soper '17, and Harry Kramer '20, respectively.

Jennifer Lewis '20 was recently inducted into the Elmira College Beta Tau Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society.

Each year three awards are given out to dedicated students within the nursing major, the Excellence in Nursing Senior Year Award, the Rho Gamma Scholarship, and the Professional Nurse of the Twin Tiers Leadership Award.

Each year Elmira College awards upperclassmen students with the Iris Leadership Award. This year, the award was presented to Evelyn Schoenberger '22 and Noah Dorchester '21.

Recently a group of Elmira College students enrolled in the "Contemporary Latina Literature" course created an exhibit titled, "Latina Authors Project." The project combines the study of notable Latina authors and the creative talent from students who portrayed them through art.

Each year Elmira College awards the Corning Section American Chemical Society Award, CRC Basic Chemistry, and the Algernon DeWaters Gorman Prize to students in the chemistry major. The recipients for this years prizes include Paige Stilts '23, Jordan Holt '23, and Emma Kelly '21.

The Center for Mark Twain Studies announced the winners of the Annual Portraying Mark Twain Art Contest and the Mark Twain Essay Contest.
