Elmira College recently recognized many of its most promising new students with the 83rd awarding of the Elmira College Key Award.

Following the opening weekend of the 2018-19 ice hockey season, Soaring Eagle skaters Katie Granato '19 of the nationally-ranked women's team and Nick Ford '20 of the men's team have been crowned Elmira College Athletes of the Week.

Kasey Campbell '19 of the women's volleyball team and Tina O'Donnell '20 of the field hockey team are recipients of this week's Elmira College Athlete of the Week Awards.

For the first time in her collegiate career, freshman goalkeeper Cassidy Buchman '22, of the Elmira College women's soccer team, was named the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

For the second time this season, junior goalkeeper Tina O'Donnell '20 was recognized by the Empire 8 Conference for her exploits in goal.

Mae Dinh '19 of the field hockey team and Giovanni Garufi '22 of the men's soccer team have been named the Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14. For Dinh, the award is her second of the 2018 season, while Garufi collected his first weekly honor.

The 2018 Moser Freshman Prize was awarded to Brenna Garrison '21 and Elizabeth Foster '21 at a ceremony during Family Weekend.

Emily Selbert '20 of the field hockey team and Ryan Wallace '22 of the men's soccer team have been named Elmira College Athletes of the Week after scoring game-winning goals for their respective teams last week.

Last weekend, 49 students were inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the International Honor Society rewarding first-collegiate-year scholarship, during a ceremony held in Peterson Chapel.

The Elmira College Theatre Program began its 2018-2019 season with David Auburn's, Proof, on October 5 and 6 at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee October 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Gibson Theatre at Elmira College.

The Elmira College women's cross country team reached another milestone on Monday afternoon, as for the first time a Soaring Eagle has been awarded Empire 8 Conference Co-Runner of the Week. After leading EC to its first-ever win at the Wildcat Classic, Claire Preisch '21 was recognized with the weekly accolade from the conference office.

Sophomores Claire Preisch '21 of the women's cross country team and Katy Jewett '21 of the women's tennis team have been named Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 23.

After guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 3-2 mark this past week, senior setter Taylor Kaznowski '19 was recognized for her efforts as she was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the second time in her career.

After guiding the Elmira College women's soccer team to back-to-back wins this past week, sophomore forward Taylor Hanson '21 was recognized by the Empire 8 Conference as the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Taylor Hanson '21 of the women's soccer team and Taylor Kaznowski '19 of the women's volleyball team have been awarded Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 16.

For the first time since October of 2011, the Elmira College field hockey program has swept both Empire 8 Conference weekly accolades, as Matilda Kennedy-Butler '19 and Tina O'Donnell '20 were crowned the E8 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Academic accolades continue to pour in for the Elmira College men's basketball team, who after receiving the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award, saw two rising seniors recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom. Classmates Justin Porrett '19, a double-major in Finance and Accounting, and Anthony Abate '19, a double-major in Biology and Chemistry, were selected to the NABC Honors Court as announced by the national office on July 17.

Two-sport athlete and recent Elmira College graduate, Sarah Hughson '18, has been named one of the record-setting 581 nominees for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the NCAA office on July 12, 2018. Hughson is one of 170 multi-sport athletes in this year's pool and is among 199 nominees from the Division III level.

The Elmira College men's and women's ice hockey programs continued to earn recognition for their performance in the classroom, as 11 student-athletes were named American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars.

The Elmira College men's ice hockey team placed 16 student-athletes on the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on June 25, 2018.

The United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) recognized 15 members of the nationally-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team with 2017-18 All-Academic Team honors, as announced by the conference office on June 25, 2018.

The United Volleyball Conference (UVC) named three members of the Elmira College men's volleyball team to its annual All-Academic List, as announced by the conference office on June 19.

A pair of Elmira College student-athletes were crowned Academic All-Americans by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Elmira College recently announced this year's recipients of the Provost's Prizes in the Academic Disciplines to seven students who are outstanding in the classroom in terms of their writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills.

The Empire 8 Conference announced that 11 of Elmira College's varsity teams were awarded E8 All-Academic Team status and 71 student-athletes were named to the President's List in recognition of their outstanding work in the classroom.

Elmira College recently named the recipient of this year's Dr. Louise Frances Potter. The Prize is given in memory of Dr. Potter, an outstanding microbiologist at Elmira College, to a superior graduate in biology.

Elmira College recently awarded the Jeannette Elizabeth Sheldon '78 Prize in Foreign Languages. The Prize was endowed by Albert Smith Sheldon in memory of his sister, a member of the Class of 1878, and is awarded to the member of the graduating class with the highest achievement in foreign language study.

Elmira College recently named the recipient of this year's Bruce Beaty Memorial Prize. The Prize, established by Dr. Janice Beaty Janssen, Professor Emerita of Human Services, in memory of her son, is given to an exceptional graduate in the field of human services.
