The Winter 2019 Term is underway and Elmira College is pleased to welcome these new students to campus!

Following a 3-0-0 week and another United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) sweep, Katie Granato '19 and Stephanie Martin '22 of the nationally-ranked women's ice hockey team have been crowned Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week of January 14.

Awards continue to pour in for the No. 1/3-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team, who after winning the ultra-competitive East-West Hockey Classic, saw seniors Katie Granato '19 and Meg Lahey '19 selected to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week, as announced by the national office on January 11.

The nationally-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team received two weekly awards on January 8, as the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) crowned Katie Granato '19 Player of the Week and Ariella Haas '22 Rookie of the Week.

The first Elmira College Athlete of the Week Awards of 2019 have been issued to a pair of seniors in Meg Lahey '19 of the nationally-ranked women's ice hockey team and Justin Porrett '19 of the men's basketball team.

Senior Airman Waeya Lin, a resident of Rensselaer, was selected as the 109th Airlift Wing's Outstanding Airman of the Year for 2018, based on his superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievements. Lin joined the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing in Scotia, New York in 2016 with the Medical Group as a medical technician. He is a 2012 graduate of Rensselaer High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry from Elmira College, Elmira, New York, in 2016. Lin was recently accepted into the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Lin will go on to compete for the New York Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of the Year.

Elmira College released its Dean's List for Academic Achievement for the Fall 2018 Term. The Dean's List recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher.

"Mashups and Other Collisions in Art and Literature," a print-on-demand book, features a collection of essays, poems, and artwork created by Elmira College students in the 2018 First Year Seminar class this fall.

Strawinski, Beaudin and Martin Honored as Elmira Sweeps UCHC Weekly Awards

For the last week of competition in 2018, Shannon Strawinski '19 and Eliza Beaudin '22 of the nationally-ranked women's ice hockey team have been named Elmira College Athletes of the Week.

The Elmira College Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) and the Department of Athletics expressed their holiday spirit by giving back to a local family in need, as part of Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties' Adopt-A-Family Program.

Elmira College Theatre continued its 2018-2019 season with Jaclyn Backhaus's, "Men on Boats," in an early December production.

Pittsburgh native and student-athlete, Anthony Parrucci '20, has always had an interest in art, and he is now using that interest to showcase his hometown.

After receiving her third United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Player of the Week Award, Katie Granato '19 of the nationally-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team earned national recognition as a member of the weekly D3hockey.com Team of the Week on December 12.

For the third time in 2018-19, Elmira College's Katie Granato '19 was awarded the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Week Award, as announced by the league office on December 11.

After guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 69-58 victory over Pennsylvania College of Technology, freshman guard Alyssa Waters '22 of the Elmira College women's basketball team was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on December 10.

For the first time this season, senior point guard Lindsey Heaton '19 was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week after guiding the Soaring Eagles to a pair of non-conference triumphs.

For the first time in his collegiate career, Elmira College's Justin Porrett '19 was crowned the Empire 8 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week in recognition of his career outing in EC's win over Keuka.

Lindsey Heaton '19 of the women's basketball team and Marty Kapoian '22 of the men's ice hockey team were chosen as Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 2.

A pair of fourth-year student-athletes - Sally Hogan '19 of the women's basketball team and Katie Granato '19 of the women's ice hockey team - have been honored as Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 9.

The Empire 8 Conference announced that Jonathan Muller '18 of the men's cross country team and Irene Zimmerman '19 of the women's cross country team have been named Elmira College's representatives on the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Teams.

Senior guard Lindsey Heaton '19 of the women's basketball team and junior forward Matthew Cuce '20 of the men's ice hockey team have been chosen as Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 18.

Jess Adams '21 of the Elmira College women's ice hockey team and Justin Porrett '19 of the EC men's basketball team were named Elmira College Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week ending November 25.

For the second time this season, Elmira College's Katie Granato '19 has garnered United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on November 13.

The Empire 8 Conference named Elmira College's Henry Cuffee '19 the first E8 Player of the Week and Kyle Kokoskie '22 the Rookie of the Week on November 12. The awards both mark career firsts for the Soaring Eagle duo.

Rachel Katzenberger '19, a senior defensive specialist/libero on the Elmira College women's volleyball team, received special recognition on November 16, as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selected her to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team.

Defensive stalwarts Liz Shephard '21 and Tina O'Donnell '20 received year-end accolades from the Empire 8 Conference on November 12, as Shephard was named an E8 All-Conference Honorable Mention and O'Donnell was chosen to the Sportswoman of the Year Team.

First-year skater Eliza Beaudin '22 of the Elmira College women's ice hockey team was selected as the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on November 6.

Two members of the Elmira College men's ice hockey team were rewarded for their efforts after leading the Soaring Eagles to a trio of wins early in the season. Junior Connor Powell '20 was crowned the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Co-Player of the Week and sophomore Jake Sabourin '21 received Goalie of the Week accolades on November 6.

Seniors Katie Granato '19 of the women's ice hockey team and Henry Cuffee '19 of the men's basketball team have been recognized for their high-scoring efforts over the weekend as Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 11.
